September 2017 Newsletter

Welcome back!

We hope everyone enjoyed our all-to-brief summer. We are pleased to report that we ran three well-attended WNYOPL matches and two well-attended NRA tournaments since our last General Meeting. We have lots of projects and improvements that we would like to put in place for the membership, so we hope that you will attend the General Membership meeting this month.

A printable PDF version of this month’s Club Newsletter is attached below.

Please note!  The membership voted at the May meeting to limit the number of printed and mailed newsletters to the September, December bulletins, and to special newsletters such as the annual work duty roster and newsletters announcing bylaw or constitutional amendments.

● Thank you to everyone who attended our club family picnic on August 27!  It was well attended and we of course had more food than we knew what to do with.  Special thanks to Al Hopkins and Roy Smith for organizing the event!

● Winter shooting leagues are now forming. We will participate in the Niagara Frontier Pistol League and the Suburban Pistol League. The leagues run 21 weeks and 16 weeks, respectively. In order to qualify for League awards, you only have to shoot in 60% of the scheduled matches. New for this year, SPL will have a Centerfire program of 10 matches. Any centerfire caliber will qualify. League fees are $10 for the season. Shooters interested in joining the League should contact Al Hopkins (SPL Team Captain) and/or Jim Gerstung (NFPL Team Captain). All formal leagues start shooting for score in October. Check out our webpage or come to the September meeting for more information!

● The New York State Outdoor Pistol Championship will be held at our club on September 16 and 17. This is a major tournament and is one of our most important opportunities to show the public and other shooters just how good our club is and how active our members are. We need volunteers to run the match. Please contact Jim Gerstung (jgerstung@outlook.com) for more info.

● Our youth shooting program is starting soon. Thanks to Matt Giansante for organizing our new youth shooting program and reaching out to the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the Buffalo Police Explorer Post! We will be starting our formal youth program in September. We will be hosting a 90-minute program twice a month until we get enough interest to go longer. Volunteers are needed, of course, to make this a program we can be proud of. Thanks also to Tim Colf, Bill Siska, Jim Weiberg, Chris Guarino and Walt Conley for helping with the program and with the indoor range work party last month.

Good shooting to all,

/Peter Vasilion, President/
