January 2018 Newsletter

Happy New Year!

Due to New Years Day falling on a Monday the next general membership meeting will be January 8, 2018 at 7:30 PM.

We hope 2018 will be a busy year for the Club and our membership.  We successfully launched a youth shooting program in 2017 and we hope to build on it.  We introduced steel plate shooting in 2017 and hope it continues to bring people out Tuesday evenings during the summer.  We have a couple of big projects slated for this year, including the roof and upstairs range renovation at the Indoor range. In all, very exciting things are going on.

So, without further ado:  Here’s the important news (as always, a downloadable paper copy is linked below):

● Congratulations to all officers elected at the December meeting, especially our new Treasurer, Gail F.. We are looking forward to a very productive New Year!

If you obtained your pistol permit before January 13, 2013, you must re-certify before January 31, 2018.  Under the SAFE Act and State Police internal guidance issued after the Act, persons who do not re-certify before the deadline will find their permits no longer valid.  Re-certification is easy.  Either do it online at: https://firearms.troopers.ny.gov/pprecert/ or download and print out the paper forms and mail them before the deadline.  The Shooters Committee on Political Education (SCOPE) recommends re-certifying using paper in order give the State Police everything they’re “asking for” if you catch their drift.  Paper forms can be downloaded here: https://troopers.ny.gov/Firearms/PPB-2.pdf If you have questions or concerns, our in-house attorney, Keith G. and Peter V. are happy to take questions.  Also, the Erie County Clerk’s Pistol Permit Office has a help desk open at 95 Franklin Street, Buffalo, NY from 9:00 to 4:30 weekdays (except Wednesday) until the end of January.  The help desk will help you re-certify online face-to-face.

● Membership dues are “due” as of January 1. Regular membership remains $80.00 and key fobs are still $10.00. Make your check payable to Ten X Shooting Club, Inc., and mail it to P.O. Box 226, Lancaster, NY 14086. If any member is concerned about getting his or her payment in before the cut-off date, they should contact our Treasurer, Gail, to make a payment arrangement tenxshooting@hotmail.com

● The next series of NFPL and SPL league matches are as follows:

January 11 vs. Polaris
January 18 vs. Niagara Falls
January 25 vs. Mohawk
February 1 vs. Pinecrest

January 9 vs. NCSA
January 16 vs. Alden
January 22 Bye Week
January 30 vs. Clarence

● On a political note, 2018 is a Federal and State Election Year. Our extremely anti-gun Governor is running for re-election and he wants to run for President in 2020. The very anti-gun congressman running in the south-Buffalo based District 26 is also up for re-election. If you spend any time at a gun shop, and you see someone buying gun, go up to them and ask them if they are registered to vote. If not, give them a voter registration card and get their phone number. Remind them to register and vote on November 6. If they’re buying a gun and not a voter, they stand a very good chance of losing their rights. Voter registration form can be downloaded here: http://www.elections.erie.gov/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/VoterRegForm-English.pdf
