November 2018 Newsletter

We are returning to our regular meeting format this month and so the November General Membership Meeting will be Monday, November 5, 2018, at 7:30.

As usual, the printable version of this newsletter can be downloaded by clicking this link.

●  Thank you to Barb Mann, Beth Moses and Dianna Voit of the Erie County Medical Center Trauma Department’s Stop The Bleed program who presented at the October 1 meeting.  Members who attended received credit for completing the Bleeding Control Basic Course v. 1.0 (“BCon”) program and a certificate.  Stop The Bleed program is intended to give everyone knowledge on how to be part of the first response to mass casualty incidents like the Las Vegas shooting.  The lessons are also good for every-day situations that you might encounter, like car accidents or cuts in the home or at work.  Overall, the class appeared to be well received and a change from the ordinary meeting format.  If members have topics or ideas for other presentations, please let us know.

● Thank you to Randy Main and the crew of Main Roofing, Inc., for doing an awesome job replacing the indoor range roof this past week.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the dumpster in our lot for better part of the preceding week.  The project was completed on Friday October 21.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the work crew this past weekend.

●   November is also the annual meeting for nominations for club officers to serve in 2019. The election will be held in December. All positions are open for nominations. Being on the Board of Directors is not a lifetime appointment and new blood is always welcome. If you are interested in running, you should.  If you have questions about any office, ask any Board Member. Serving as a Board member may not have many perks, but we are proud of our Club and hope you would be proud to serve as an officer too.

●   The Youth Marksmanship program is looking for volunteers to help mentor students. The program meets every Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  For a lot of reasons, we think the youth program is very important to the future of our sport and our club.  We need help.  Ideally, we would like to have one instructor (adult supervisor) per student.  This is a great opportunity for members to complete their service time requirement.  People interested in lending a hand should contact the program coordinator, Matt G., and/or our volunteer coordinator, Gail F.

●  The SPL and NFPL leagues are underway.  The following matches are coming up:
●   Our Chief Range Officer has set November 10, 2018, as the indoor range clean up beginning at 9:00 am. The usual housekeeping chores need to be done: vacuuming the cobwebs, cleaning bathrooms, etc.. We need to repaint the upstairs range wall at the back of the range (the wall that you face away when shooting upstairs).  There is a plan to put up cardboard to cover up and make more aesthetic the plywood in front of the backstops.  Many hands make for quick work.  This is another great opportunity for members to complete their service time requirement.  On that point Mitch V., our Chief Range Officer has a running list of small projects that need to be done at any given time.  Members looking to avoid paying the surcharge on their membership renewal can easily pick up hours on their own time by working the list that Mitch has.   Mitch can be contact at:  mitchv@roadrunner(dot)com.  Also, we need to extend a thanks to Mitch V. and Dale S..  They are working on replacing the underlay and the flooring in the vestibule at the indoor range.  So far, it looks great!

●  Our Secretary of Defense, Gen. James Matthis gave a great speech on September 28 at the Virginia Military Institute.  At the very end of a half hour question-and-answer session, the General said something worthy of passing on and applicable to our organization:

If you want to watch the speech or read the transcript, you can follow this link:  https://news.usni.org/2018/09/26/secdef-mattis-speech-cadets-virginia-military-institute

● As always, thank you for making Ten X your home range.  Please let us know what you’re looking for in a club and what we can bring next year to make it better for you!

Good Shooting,

Peter Vasilion, President
