Erie County Clerk Updates Pistol Permit Procedures

Recently, the Erie County Clerk’s Office updated its procedures for persons submitting new pistol permit applications.  Among the changes to the process, the Clerk is now requiring applicants schedule an intake appointment at the downtown office at 92 Franklin Street and have their fingerprints taken at least 48-hours before the appointment (but not more than 30 days before the appointment).  That appointment must be scheduled online at the Clerk’s website,  At the intake appointment, applicants will submit two State Pistol Permit forms and one County Pistol Permit form.

In addition, the Clerk’s Office reiterated that its two suburban satellite offices, located at 2122 George Urban Boulevard in Cheektowaga and 1600 Bowen Road in Elma, are open on selected days to process amendments ( handgun additions and deletions, changes of address, issuance of replacement id cards, etc.) only.

The Clerk’s office recently reported that they continue to process over 400 new applications per month, in addition to amendments, revocation and suspension orders, permit transfers, and upgrades.
